Alternator fitment question.

When you guys are done laughing at me and I win the prize for dumbest question of the week.

1970 cutlass, 350, factory air.

Will any 10si or 12si alternator work of my car? Say like I find one used and it came off a Buick or. Cadillac or something. Will it fit and work? I guess the bolt hole locations are the biggest thing too take note of right?

Sure, but you may have to remove the four case bolts and "clock" it so that the terminals are oriented properly.

I just installed a 12si in place of a 10si. Fits just the same. I was a little concerned w/ the larger diameter fan of 12si being very close to the bracket so I pried up on alt while tensioning belt just to locate the case as high on the upper bolt as possible leaving me w/ sufficient (1/4" or so) clearance @ bottom side.
