Air Cleaner Lid To Base Rubber Seal

Air Cleaner Lid To Base Rubber Seal
I have just stripped the old paint from my air cleaner lid for my 1968 Olds Cutlass S, and have a question on the air cleaner lid to base rubber seal. Is this just glued in, and can it be removed using a heat gun on low setting so that I can clean it up and reuse it?

Just in case anyone else needs to do this, using the heat gun on low helped loosen the rubber seal. To remove the leftover rubber, Acetone was the only product which would loosen and remove the remaining rubber. You can order a replacement air cleaner lid seal from Super Cars Unlimited.

I am doing a custom project. How thick is the rubber seal? Does it compress easily? If it does how thick is the compressed height? I could not tell from the picture on SupercarsUnlimited web site.
Thanks

It is 5/16" on all 4 sides. It is more of a soft foam than a rubber seal. I could squeeze it between my fingers so that they were almost touching, so I would say compressed it is about 1/16"-2/16."
