Air Cleaner decal placement??

I have a 69 442 that has been restored. The air cleaner decal is placed in the center (let say at 6 o'clock). My all original car show it placed more to the left of center (4 o'clock) . What is correct or was it just wherever the plant worker slapped it on. I looked in the PIM but was unable to find this decal. What is the thoughts of the group?

I've seen about 264,000 or so 69 Cutlass/442s over the years going to many car shows, junk yards, owning a few originals myself, other people's cars, etc., and I've seen the range of around 5 o'clock, plus or minus a little each way. I think there was a generalized location for the label documented somewhere but as anyone knows, if humans are putting the decals on, it's not going to be an exact science everyday. So this is only anecdotal information. The only ones I'm aware of that must be 6 o'clock-ish is the dual snorkel ram air cleaners, for obvious reasons.

Is 6 o'clock incorrect? Not if it's on the air cleaner and the correct code. If anyone can point to the documentation as to placement, I'm sure everyone will appreciate that, though. I'm pretty sure the air cleaners were assemblies delivered ready to install, so the engine dress assemblers didn't have to do anything to them.

Not exactly the same as a typical 442 air cleaner, but I can't see them doing it much differently with single snorkel air cleaners regardless of the car. 69 H/O in the showroom. This one is about 5 o'clock-ish.

Never say never, but I'd say this old barn find is highly likely to be factory-applied at the 5 o'clock-ish position as well. Even has the open-faced alternator.

This one appears to be an original air cleaner. Not sure about anything else. But it looks like another 5 o'clock somewhere deal.

And...just to add to it, an original-appearing 69 Cutlass 350 with its label still seemingly intact about 4:30-ish.

Your current decal is the "generic" repop that a lot of sellers use for air cleaners with the wrong part number and NJ code. Yours should be "OS" code with part number 6484804.

As seen in the PIM page, to which this is a cruddy copy of a copy of a copy, etc.

That's the same PIM I saw. I agree my original is is more 5pm than 4pm. I guess I am going to remove this decal and move it over.

When I restored the air cleaner assembly on my '69 4-4-2 (Fremont car) I measured and determined that the left edge of the original "OS" sticker was 10 3/4" counterclockwise from the nearest edge of the snout, so that's how I placed my new sticker.

My orignal car has a?C and cruise also. Your placement looks very close to where mine is (was, very worn).
