How’s your timing? Any vacuum leaks?

I am seeing a 307 with an Edelbrock carb, a vacuum leak, and bad gas, possibly, a dry rotted rubber line or 3 on top of the tank as well.

Good point more info would be helpful. It's a 86 Regal Limited 307(5.0) A NEW EDELBROCK AVS2 1906 8312 CARB and I'm pretty sure nothing under the hood has been taken out. I just got the car from my dad. He had the carb put on before he got sick and passed last year so I can't ask him any questions. But it was running by the time I got it just starts and idle. I ran all the old gas out while that was going on I put gas treatment. (Sea Foam and I can't remember the other one that was added they weren't but in at the same time). The Fuel Pump is new gas is flowing through the filter good. I did fix 2 vac hoses, cleaned the PCV value it ran a little better after that. It seems like the carb is sucking a lot of air when I try to accelerate. Haven't done any test runs, I'm having problems trying to back out of the garage.

Called it!

Sounds like the carb was never fully set up. It won't just magically work slapping it on. It needs to be adjusted to the engine it's on top of.

I'm not a fan of those carbs, but some people love them. I'd suggest sending your old Quadrajet to Ken at Everyday Performance, and reinstall it.

This carb has no provision to deal with the TCC element of the computer. To make a non computer carb work all aspects of the computer (i.e. distributor and carb) must be swapped.

Sorry for your loss.

Go to your local parts store and see if they can rent you a vacuum gauge, timing light and tachometer. I'm not even sure if parts stores rent these tools anymore.

The 307 in your Regal uses the Computer Controlled Combustion system. This means that the ECU controls both the carb and the distributor timing (among other things). Replacing the original carb with an aftermarket one eliminates the throttle position sensor that the ECU needs to control the advance curve, which means that the distributor is now locked in the default "limp home" mode. You need to replace the original distributor with an older, non-computerized one to get the car to run right.

Man, I was going to suggest some things to check on his rebuilt CCC Quadrajet. Wow we have never seen anyone have issues with Edelbrock carbs on here, only about 20 threads🙄. A few guys on here have replaced endless parts on them and it changed nothing. The AVS2 is supposed to be better, hopefully it is. It still leaves lock up control and I bet he is still running the factory distributor, which means basically no timing advance. Grab a cheap Ebay Oldsmobile V8 vacuum adistributor and go from there. That carb is probably very rich for a 307. Do yourself a favor and get an AEM wideband to tune it, if you are determined to go this route. You already have a O2 bung in the manifold. I hope you are doing dual exhaust, that probably would have gained you more power than swapping the carb. Good luck, you may need it.

Sorry for the loss of your Dad.

As others have mentioned the original carburetor and distributor are integral parts of this car's CCC (Computer Command Control) system. The car isn't going to run without both installed and properly adjusted.

If you have the original carb try putting it on and start a diagnosis.

Good luck and again, sorry for your loss.

I totally agree with this. I tried to use an Edelbrock out of the box on my 455 and was very disappointed. I ended up buying a rebuilt numbers matching carb for the year of the 455 because the original casting was cracked and the car runs great.

Could be the catalytic converter is clogged up if it still has one.

Sure, that's POSSIBLE. Having a limp home advance curve when an aftermarket carb is installed is a CERTAINTY.
