I posted this little project on the HAMB but I thought I would share. Most of you are restorers and this is of little interest to you though I didn't harm anything in mounting it so it can be moved without a trace. I got tired of 8 tracks all over the interior of the rag top so I made a holster for them.
I started with a $5 thrift store plastic tape box.
And cut both ends off in my band saw. I left slots for 3 tapes on either end. I used the ends for strength and cuz it looks better. I epoxied those together
I cut the lid of the box to form the top of my carrier and more epoxy was applied, it was slightly shorter tho
So I found a piece of aluminum in my scrap bin and shaped it to fit and polished the leading edge
It isn't glued down yet in that photo but it fit nice and gave it a factoryish look. After it was set up I used heavy duty double sided 3M tape to stick it to the bottom of my 8 track deck.. The tapes lean just enough to clear the console and so as not to eject them selves upon quick launches.
Tunes at my fingertips and I can actually use the glove compartment and jockey box again. Should have been a factory option.
$5.00 on a tape box, $10er in epoxy another $7 in 3M tape, result? Priceless. Long live the Oldsmobile!
