Smile '73 Delta 88 Royale convertible

It has been a while since I posted in here. Mostly because I have been hard at work.

Did get the wheels aligned and the steering wheel straightened. New center link. A prior owner took it 4 wheeling at some point.

Replaced the header bow and tension wires. Have replaced all the bushings in the convertible mechanism, wire brushed the light surface rust and shot it with satin black rustoleum. That should last another 42 years. New top skin goes on in the next week or so.

Found glass for the left quarter window. Rebuilt the regulator. The cold steel rivets had me stumped for a bit but got past that.

New suspension all the way around. Drives like a dream now.

Rebuilt the distributor. Full tune up. Added spark plug wire clips to remove them from laying on the valve covers.

Rebuilding the cruise control, have it hooked up enough that have a speedometer now.

Still have the a/c and heater to go, but winter is coming and I can work on that while I have it stored in my shop. Not that ambitious to drive a convertible, even with the top up, in Oregon during the winter.

Wife and I are unclear on paint next spring. I lean towards '69 Charger dark green with metal flake. She leans toward candy apple red with flake. I guess we are just flakey.

All in all the project is moving forward, not as fast as I would like but we have only had the car since mid June. Pictures to come as soon as the top is on and it no longer looks raggedy.

Thanks for the great suggestions on my posts for help. Without them I surely wouldn't be this far along!

Can't wait to see the pictures when the top is finished.
I saw your comments about getting the speedo going by working on the cruise unit. My speedo cable was noisy and then on a cold morning a couple of days ago, no more noise and the speedo stopped registering. I want to take a look at this week, and was hoping it is the cruise unit causing the issue. I really want to avoid tearing into the dash to access the cable. Any thoughts on that? The cruise units are easy to access and I see rebuilt ones for sale. Did that take care of your issues or did you have to replace the cables as well?

How does one go "4-wheeling" in a 2-wheel-drive car?

Someone had done that in my car - there was a dent in the driveshaft like someone had picked the car straight up in the air and dropped it on top of a boulder.

Needless to say it ran much smoother once I replaced that.

On mine I had to purchase a cruise control transducer and mount it. Then it was running a 61 inch cable from the transmission to the transducer. Then a 41 inch cable from the transducer to the back of the speedometer. Fiddly work but well within my limited capabilities.

New top. Got it installed just in time for our rains. Had to leave it up for 30 days so it could stretch and shake into place. Supposed to do that in the sun, fat chance this time of year so I put it in a friends' paint booth and warmed it a few times.
