'72 center console in a '67?

A friend of mine rebuilt his '72 cutlass a few years ago and spent big bucks getting premium replacement parts throughout the interior. He offered me the center console and shifter fo' free. I know it won't be original, it is totally different. But will it fit in a '67? Will it fit the floor contour? What mounting pieces would I need to install it? My car has bench seats now but I want to install buckets.

BTW, he says he has lots of interior pieces, what kind of interest would there be for them?

Buckets from a '67 or '72 are pretty much the same, so the console will fit the buckets. As far as the floor pan/tunnel, not exactly the same. But, with a little ingenuity, it can easily be done. Get a set of mounting brackets specific for the console, and fab the bottoms to fit the tunnel. Of course, you will need a specific shift cable to your trans(assuming the ST300), and you will need to locate the shifter on the tunnel. Not that hard.....then a floor shift column and possible speedo if your car is a column shift now......I'm sure Joe P will chime in and point you in the right direction.

I've seen it done before, but to me it just doesn't look right. Personally, I'd sell the 70-72 console, buy a 67-69 console, and pocket the difference. The later consoles are worth more.

Actually, truth be told, what I personally would really do is buy a 67-69 console for the 67, THEN I'd buy a 70-72 car to put the newer console into...

Yeah, I've done stuff like that before.

The cars I get for free usually end up costing me the most. Naturally I never learn.

LOL! I know what you mean Joe. This one is a total basket case and I paid money for it.
