71-72 fenders on a 70 cutlass/442/F85
What are everyone's thoughts on having 71-72 fenders on a 1970 Cutlass/442/f85? It would take a real Oldsmobile enthusiast to notice when the hood is open, I’m on the fence with which way to go. Currently working on a 70 F85 and the roller I bought had repop 71-72 fenders, they actually lined up nice, but I have thought of off-loading them if I could get my hands on 70 fenders.

if you're working the fenders anyway go for it. definitely on a w car or 442. problem is no one except a local buyer will buy the 71 72 fenders and not even for close to what a nice 70 pair will fetch.

If the car isn't going to be judged for serious points, the 71/72 fenders are fine. They're actually safer too with the crumple feature built in. Just an FYI, a large number of 71 cars were made with 70 fenders because they were 'left over' and used for 71 production till the newly mandated safety fenders were produced. If you absolutely must have 70 fenders, find a donor car that needs a lot of help. Then strip the fenders, literally remove the structural brace and bottom rust. Then use the good 71/72 fenders as donors to replace the braces and lower patches. Lots of work isn't it? That might be something that motivates your decision. Replacement 1970 fenders are very very expensive.

Keep in mind that the "dimpled" fenders superseded the flat 1970 fenders in the parts network as soon as they came out. Any 1970 Cutlass that needed a fender replacement automatically got a dimpled one if a new one was ordered.

1970 Fenders
My Rallye has the dimpled fenders that are in perfect shape and I just can not see spending the money for 1970 year only fenders, when any 1970 car that was damaged after it was bought would have got the new type fender. I know this may cost me some points if I get the car judged but I will have more money in my pocket.
