'70 pass sport mirror glass housing won't recess all the way into mirror assembly
Hiya everyone,
The mirror glass housing that slides into the mirror assembly won't go all the way back. I realize that the male/female receivers are both star-threaded (male on housing appears to be tapered), but the mirror glass housing just won't seat all the way back (I know it isn't right because the gaps between the mirror and the edges of the assembly are bigger than the driver's side).
It fit just fine before and then just popped out as I was driving and onto the pavement, breaking the mirror glass. I replaced the mirror glass but am having a surprisingly-difficult time with an otherwise simple task.
I tried sticking the mirror glass assembly in the freezer overnight and lubricated the male-female receivers, but that didn't work.
Before I entertain a solution that includes a grinder and sealant, would someone please offer some help? Thanks in advance.
