The fact that he said "when they started 442 meant: 4 barrel, 400 cubic inch, dual exhaust" is indeed incorrect. Although, I would cut the guy a break because this definition was correct starting in 1965 and he seemed to specialize in 69-72.

Agreed, put a camera and a microphone in somebody’s face and sometimes they get nervous and make a simple mistake like that. The guy obviously knows the cars he’s owned so many of them. I didn’t realize that black car was original paint other in one fender and basically unrestored. That’s pretty amazing

So this car sold for $198,000 but a fake wagon sold for $200,000?

Someone posted a picture of a blue car on a FB group that said it sold for $200,000 but I didn't see the auction.

Apparently FB strikes again and the price was not accurate. Sorry for spreading fake news.

Use the last one I posted for example. 90 grand. 90 thousand dollars. Wrong everything. Lol love the wing. But some dumbass with a checkbook says oh pretty blue.

I've heard that this is also a way to launder money. That would explain some of the insane prices.

Yup. I have had that discussion with many people. Including people that do go to purchase.

Don't get me wrong. Super documented true W cars. I get it. One more wrong color wrong hood wrong stripe wing added this or that? Not so much. To see pace cars go for half or more behind a car that was solely built to auction? Hobby looses value and credibility at a certain point.

Looks like the hobby is doing good. High prices for these cars. I say Yea hope it keeps climbing so if I sell my junk I get something out of it instead of putting more into it than it's worth . I seen some that were reasonably priced.

What do you guys think of the “w30” vert that graces the cover of your opgi catalog. The black with gold stripes. What value would you place on it?

Unfortunately, things are worth what the buyer is willing to pay!!! You can see a true original 442 sell under $40k, and a resto mod numbers matching nothing will bring 6 figures $$$ this is the market we are in. Barrett Jackson coming up will help show if thats really the rabbit hole we're going down.

IG Pace Car
If the record holder went over 200k, a rare and sought after should easily be worth 65k.

So this my story, back when I was 18,about a hundred years ago, I bought a used 70 bone stock shift on the column matador red w29 442 Convertible for $1500. Had it for 4-5 years and sold it for the same amount which was unheard of. Flash forward to 2016 , I’m in the market for the same car but couldn’t justify taking out a second mortgage to purchase a “toy”. So I see this 70 convertible in the local ads which was an obvious clone and I said, not for me , well maybe I’ll take a look at it. I bought it and have zero regrets. I tell everyone upfront it’s a cs and nobody seems to mind. I drive it, l beat on it and I take it to shows. I have no sympathy for people trying to sell a clone as the real thing. May the hammer of Thor come down on them and there car. On second thought not the car. So I’m able to enjoy this piece of Oldsmobile history without breaking the bank. Obtw the opgi w30 convertible is a clone also
