70 Cutlass - steering gear box End cap seal leak

70 Cutlass Steering gear box front cap seal is leaking. The cap is held in with a snap ring. I watched a video on steering box R&R, and it showed the cap needed to be pushed out by rotating the gear, and an internal piston, then pushed the cap out...after most of the box was taken apart...So can (has any been able to) remove and replace the front cap seal w/o removing the gear box, or disconnecting the shaft. thanks.. and who sells the front seal...

update - rotating the wheel worked for my application - do your research in advance for your application....The housing end cap seal had some bad spots, resulting in the leak. I cleaned the cap (alum.) cleaned the seal area on the housing and put a new seal in. Leak fixed. Was easier than I thought. I think if l had pulled the seal in advance and looked around, I might have been able to find it for a lot less than buying a rebuild kit
