68 Hurst Olds stripe
Posting these pics of 68 Hurst Olds side stripe and where it ends or should end
Picture one is my friend's car with original paint. He is currently the second owner and remains in contact with original owner.
Pictures two and three, notice where the stripe ends in comparison to picture one. It appears these cars had restorations at some point. In addition every Hurst Olds I have seen via internet, stripe ending resembles pictures two and three.
Does anyone or have seen a 68 whose stripe resembles that of picture one?
Thanks Dean

Photos 2 (drawing) and 3 are terrible examples of stripes. I see a lot of issues with them both along the bottom in particular.
One thing to remember, all of the 68 and 69 stripes were painted by hand and then pin striped by hand (the pin striping all by one guy). There would be some natural variation, but you can't really argue with an original paint car. Also remember that they weren't done perfectly either...

From what hear about the stripes for the 68 H/O is that the Hurst Olds Club reproduces a stripe kit for the cars.
They used the Badgley car (Club advisor) to make the kit.
I agree with you Dean that the stripes are way different than the "original" paint car. The more you look at it the more it stands out.
Very interesting.
Here are more examples of 68 H/O cars.
The pictures of the cars below are from doing a quick Google search.

A guy I met locally tells me his dad did the stripes on the 68's and part of the 69's. Hurst offered to let him stripe the Hurst Scramblers so he switched to do something different. I need to go to his house as he said he had some stuff Hurst gave his dad when he painted the stripes. I think he said his dad painted stripes on dragsters back in the day.

Hey Dean,
Here is another restored 68 H/O with the incorrect black stripe up by the rear quarter window. The white stripe is wrong too as it is to wide.
This car was at the Steve Plunkett Fleetwood Country Cruize show over the weekend in London Ontario.
Cheers

Can anyone verify this stripe. I thought they went completely straight across on bottom .
This looks to be original.
Stripes also consistent on all four corners

That could very well be original. The tapered ends like that are absolutely what SHOULD be there. They were NOT straight across the bottom. That is the first and most obvious mistake made on many of the repaints of these cars (and the '69s are done the same, I've owned both).

Thanks for reply.
HO club didn't want to hear it at first . they also thought quarter window stripes on most restored cars are correct.
Thanks again you having owned both would know

Hey Dean,
It might be time for a correct stripe kit (stencil) for the 68 HO; parts of the stencil kit could be used for the 69 HO as well.
I agree with you as most of the restored cars are striped incorrectly along the rocker panel stripe and the stripe that goes up by the quarter window.
Cheers,

While doing some research on the H/O stripes , I came across a thread from a few years ago that discusses the striping on the 68 Hurst Olds.
Again, the stripes in the drawing are incorrect. (rocker panel and quarter window stripes)
These diagrams were from the H/O advisor.
Could this be the reason why so many restored cars have the stripe wrong?

Dean - it might be the right time to make the correct stripe kit!!!
