68 front end conversion to 72

Has anyone converted a 68 front end to a 72? My father has a 68 and loves the hood scoop on the 71-72. Is it possible to use a 71-72 hood on a 68? If so, do you have pics? How complicated was it? If this is not possible, is it possible to convert a 68 front end to a 71-72? I am not asking if you like the idea or not ( I understand how us olds guys can get) just want to know my options.

Just about anything is possible with lots of work. The best bet is to find someone who does fiberglass and have a 68' hood moulded with the 71-72 scoop on it. I've seen G body Olds with fabricated hoods.

you'd have to get 69 front fenders/core support, grill etc... then you could buy a reproduction 70-72 OAI hood, changing the short center section between the grills (that is attached to the hood) to the 69 peice would make it work on a 69 front end.

that said...
a 68 442 is a very unique and distinctive looking car. I wouldn't do it myself, but its your car and you gotta do what makes you happy.

just don't get rid of your original 68 front end stuff. At some point in the future you'll be glad you kept it.

The 70-72 front fenders don't match the 68 body lines. Easiest way to do this is to buy another car.

Fiberglass Ltd. in the Chicago area does custom work - might be a good time to call, as this is their slow time.

Thornton makes a ram air hood for the 69, not sure about the fenders being the same size. They make the best ram air hoods, but you will have rabbit ears when you pull everything out your pockets to pay for it

And it looks a LOT like their 1970 hood...

Of course, it won't fit a 1968 because of the different grill. One COULD swap a 1969 core support, grill, headlights, and bumper onto a 68 and then use this hood. Personally I'd keep the 68 front end and get the repro under-bumper scoops. Much less common and a better conversation starter.
