68 Cutlass U-Joints

68 Cutlass S 350 2bbl ST300 trans with Type O differential.

I am trying to have my U-Joints replaced. Ordered Moog 234. Specs show Cap size 1.125 and Length 2.557. My mechanic states that they are too wide (long) to replace.

Any suggestions?? All the listing I can find show these same dimensions.

That is correct. Need to use internal clips. He may be thinking external. Or a needle fell out of place and does not allow cap to seat 100%. Does the new and old ones match correctly in length?

Thanks for the replies. I took it to a DriveShaftPro location. He took one look at it and said it was the correct U-Joints. So he would install it. Took him 10 mins.
The repair shop was just trying to look at it on the bench and did not try to actually install it.

I was going to have DriveShaftPro check the balance, but he said he could not since it had the rubber sleeve and testing it could damage it or make it worse.
If the sleeve ever fails, I will replace it with a solid shaft.

I'd say it's time to find a new mechanic.
