67 cutlass power antenna removal for car cover
Hey Bought a car cover Heard the best way to get an exact antenna fit is to remove the antenna , place car cover on , punch hole for patch.
This one has a power antenna.Underneath the trunk I see 3 small screws on base(up top trunk ) But they are so small I can't see that helping anything.
Any suggestions anyone? Thanks

Hence my question. It's hard to get an exact spot with a foot of antenna keeping the right rear cover from seating correctly.

This was a 1 owner person who never had any work done on it.The antenna is on the passenger side like the picture.I've seen other 67's with the antenna not all the way down. And some with no antenna's in rear at all(convertibles). So I'm a bit confused myself. Thanks Gearhead for clearing the location up.Is it supposed to retract all the way? Doesn't seem to.

Maybe the easiest solution is to sell me the car and cover for $1500
Assuming it should go down all the way; did you try soaking at the base of the antenna with WD40? I wouldn't force it to retract...the last thing you would want to do is replace a bent antenna.

Then it's not working properly. It should retract flush with the bezel on the fender.
All factory power antennas that year were optional and mounted on the rear quarter. The fixed antenna was mounted on the front fender.

Or do I still need to remove the antenna(original question on how?)to troubleshoot it.
Or may there be another way of troubleshooting the power antenna.
It does work.Just doesn't work right I guess.
Thanks

Experiment different things...inexpensive thing...before removing antenna.
Try WD40
Try heating with hair dryer
Try cooling by spraying with upside down can of compressed air
Try heating and then cooling one right away after the other
I don't have a power antenna so I don't know the answer. Does the antenna twist at the base? Does each section that comes out of the base twist freely? If it is not meant to twist, don't do it. When the antenna is extended fully, I would wipe it down to remove any dirt or grime that may make it stick.

I have 2 of these antennas, one functional one for parts. They unfortunatly do not retract all the way flush with the bezel. I think its just an early electric antenna thing, the antenna also electric on my 65 Vette does not retract completely. Not sure when they did start making them retract flush.
