i need a little help with this carb. the numbers on my quadrajet read 7027157 which i was told is right for a 67 4speed 400 ci engine, but according to the internet,(and i know the internet is always right) haha. the numbers should be stamped in a round half dollar size plate on side of carb, but mine are stamped on l/r side of carb. i have enclosed pics. could this be a replacement carb. any help will do.
That looks like a service replacement carburetor, built to the specs of an original 1967 carb but stamped with the part number in the location where carbs '68 and newer were stamped. The date code tells the story - this carb was manufactured on "2059", or the 25th day of 1969.
Original 66-67 carbs had the number stamped on a round foil tag that was swaged into the side of the carb near the accelerator pump. The tag is actually about the size of a nickel. Service replacement carbs (and restamps) look like yours. An original looks like the one in this photo. Note the round tag. Also, the 7027156 carb is the correct one for your car. 7027156 was used on every big block Olds with 4bbl that year except the Toro or Calif emissions cars with A.I.R., or the RPO K60 Climatic Combustion Control option. That means nearly every 400 and 425 with either AT or MT got '156.
7027157 was only used for BBO with A.I.R. and Calif emissions. I don't see any of that hardware on your car, so this isn't the correct number anyway. Fortunately, the '156 and '157 carbs are calibrated exactly the same as far as internal parts and jetting. The only difference is vacuum ports and external adjustment settings.
