64 starfire wiper motor
64 starfire wiper motor
When I got this 64 olds the wipers didn't work. I checked the connection and there is power going to the motor. I took the motor out and banged it around, and tested it by plugging it back in. When I turned **** to low I heard s click or something then another one when I turned to high. I turned the **** off then back on again, I heard a pop then noticed the motor was turning. I turned to high and it went faster. I turned it off the back on again and it worked again. I unplugged it because I had to wait on a retainer clip. I left it setting on the workbench for a day. After a day of two the retainer clip came so I plugged the motor up one more time to check it before putting everything back together, and now nothing, just after I plugged it in it touched the arm that goes to the cruise control and there was a spark. After that there was nothing I couldn't get it to work, but I know it's getting power at the connection.
I just went through a similar problem on my '62. There is a relay in there that pulls on some linkage that allows the motor to turn on. Mine was gummed up with old grease. I had to disassemble it and clean it good and put some new grease on it. Or maybe the relay is bad. I'd look at that linkage first.
