64 Cutlass Passenger Side Mirror

For the 64 owners out there, if you have a factory passenger side mirror, can you take a photo and post it please? I picked up scratch and dent one from Fusick for a good price and didn't even compare it to my driver side one and the pattern on the back of the mirror is different. The driver side one is more of a random pattern while the Fusick passenger one is made up of concentric circles (http://www.fusickautomotiveproducts....number=SM6365R). Was curious if the factory passenger one actually differed from the factory driver side one. TIA

Is your drivers side a remote adjustment mirror with the toggle lever on the inside of the door? The standard mirror should be the one with the circles on the backside. Can you post a picture of the drivers mirror you have? John

Correct, driver side mirror is a remote adjustment w/ adjustment on door. Photo attached of the back of the drivers side mirror.

Yes, that is the correct remote mirror for 1964. They didn't make a passenger side that matches it. If you really want both sides you'll need to change to the manual adjustment mirrors or go with a pair of mirrors from a newer car that match each other. John

Thanks for your knowledge John, much appreciated. You wouldn't happen to be familiar with installing the passenger side mirror, do you? I assume I'd have to remove the door panel and drill a hole in the door to secure the mirror? How would I go about aligning it to match the driver side?

I've not done a passenger side mirror on a 1964. You might create a new thread asking if anyone has done this. Since your car is a convertible you'll need to check the visibility from the drivers seat around the wing window in the passenger door. I'd try measuring the location on the drivers door, then have a friend hold the new mirror in that place on the passenger side while you sit in the drivers seat. If you can't see the mirror then have him move it around until you can. My 2 cents worth!

I did this on my 1962 convertible. Different non-remote mirror, but similar.

It looks to me that if you loosen the set screw in the mirror support arm it will then come off the bracket. The bracket itself most likely is held on my two screws.

Remove the gasket and bracket. Trace a template, marking the bracket attachment holes. Double check by making accurate measurements of hole locations from top of door edge and front of door edge.

Theoretically, you should be able to simple flip the template and put it in place on the passenger side door. Double check!

Drill your holes after you are absolutely certain the location is correct. You only get one change to get it wrong!
Attach bracket
Attach gasket
Attach mirror

I do not know if the mirror glass on a remote control mirror, minus the remote control cable, will stay in place or be able to be adjusted manually? You will want to ascertain that before undertaking any of the above steps.

Thanks Dave for the step by step. I'll give it a shot once I work up the courage.
