Perhaps jam two nets together on the studs and remove them?

I don't think Oldsmobile ever used studs from the factory. Maybe they should have on the later diesels?

If you have an engine hoist you can try to use it to lift up on the exhaust port. Just make sure everything is loose first.

If the engine has studs holding the heads on, they are aftermarket.

As mentioned, jam two nut’s together and try to back out the studs. Once loose from the lock, you may need to remove the head and studs together. I know it’s a tight fit removing pushrods around heater cases and brake boosters, I’m betting head studs would be just as bad if not worse.

Crank it over. If that doesn't work give it a shot of ether!

Cranking is insanity, lol, but might work. The valvetrain, I assume, is disconnected, so the ether won't make it into the chamber unless you pushed down the valve and shot it in the intake port, now that would be nuts. If that is done, put some nuts on the bolts up an inch or so so the thing doesn't jump too high.

Big rubber mallet, beat sideways. Also, make sure you got all the nuts off.

Simply remove the studs with double nuts as said earlier, then as Koda said, rubber mallet. No reason to complicate it. My guess is there is still an attached stud somewhere..

Cranking it over might work. Thats how we used to pop out stuck injectors on 7.3L power strokes.

I think you have to get all the studs out before you can get the head off. I think the head is possibly seized to some of the studs. You may need a stud removal tool to get them out.

shoot a bunch of liquid wrench down alongside the stud going into the block. Tap them and get some vibration going shoot them again and let them sit for about four or five hours and go back there with the double nut and they will come off.

Anyone who has pulled a head on an old flathead with 20 plus studs can sympathize. There is always one or two that are stuck. You'll probably find the stuck one is open to the elements and not under the valve cover.
Cranking it over was half a joke. The head won't go flying, it'll just pop up. The ether was a full joke!

Without pushrods no air is let in to compress, from cranking the motor . A blast of shop air in a spark plug hole sometimes does the trick. Studs should be out first though.
