$245 Dollars??

I just bought a new mini starter for my olds and it is so close to the flywheel that it bothered me.

I called their tech line " Sir you need to buy shims to back it off a bit"

What? For this kind of money they should have been included!

Just eyeball close or did you measure it like the instructions explain. It could be fine as is.

It's a Hair away from touching it.

I would be nice if you let us know which one you bought? Are you taking about when its retracted or the gear mesh?

Most I've seen use .050 as the desired distance. That's less than a 1/16th of an inch or about the thickness of a paper clip. Will a paper clip slide in there.
Of course none of this matters if it doesn't hit at all while running.

Good point Oldcutlass. I'm referring to gear mesh on the .050 measurement. Retracted doesn't matter unless it's hitting.

I understand his concern as most flex plates, flex. A lot of the aftermarket mini starters come with shims to move them closer or farther away for both gear mesh and position.

I have too move the bendix gear farther away for the flex plate.

Or better yet the starter toward the front of the engine.

They have a round shim that goes behind the mounting block and the starter that moves it back. They should have been included with the starter. Powermaster is a good company with reliable products, glad they are stepping up.

They did not send them to me, I bought them elsewhere.

Every Powermaster I've bought came with the mount and snout shims and new bolts. Every starter install needs to be checked and potentially adjusted. Just part of the fun.

I bought a knock off mini starter from eBay that costs $140 that didnt required any shims. Its starts up very strong with no problems.

$245.00 that's a good price haha, I had my Powermaster mini starter shipped to Canada from Summit. With the exchange taxes and shipping I paid, you got a deal !!
Oh but mine came with shims.
