No, not really, though usually if it has the original OW tagged transmission with matching VIN stamp you can be pretty confident it is. But the trans and all other W30 parts can be bolted on to a 442.

It is easier to tell if it is not a W30 as all W30s were built in Lansing MI thus will have an M in the VIN tag. If no M than it can not be a W30. If the VIN does not start with 344 than it is not a 442 and can not be a W30 either. Lots of info on this site, searching isn't great but will bring up lots of results.

Every part that is unique to the W-30 can be bolted onto any 442. Blank OW tags are available on ebay, and it's not hard to restamp a block and trans case. There are probably more "W-30s" on the road now than in 1970. While only factory paperwork is proof, you CAN have some assurance if you find a non-restored car and all the W-30 parts look like they've been there since the car was born. On the other hand, be very wary of body-off restorations that have every single option the factory offered.

It's a Lansing Vin but there are no where near enough pics here to tell if it's a real W30. Just the fact that the speakers are in the kick panels would tell me it was never a $193k car. Was that a $20k starting bid? It says $20k is the bid but it said it's closed and there were no bidders

a little elbow grease and this could be a great car, not a lot to go by but a bare bones convertible real 442, not a lot of those left.

It was in a bath of salt water over the top of the car. I'd say it will take more than a little elbow grease

It's been relisted on Copart so apparently it didn't sell

Lot # 28094292.

The VIN # is 344670M247375 so when some poor guy buys it without knowing it's history he can Google the VIN and see he bought a car that was completely submerged in salt water. With any luck it will alert someone who's THINKING about buying before they do it.

Let it sit just like that awhile and it will magicly turn into a "survivor". "stored away for years."
Not hard to find a barn to park it in either.

I REALLLLY hope that's sarcasm...

As I've said before, the problem with BJ and the like is that now everyone thinks their P.O.S. is worth six figures. The reality is that the BJ sale prices aren't about the value of the cars, they are about the value of winning over the other guy with more money than brains.
