Hood hinge shim..
Hood hinge shim..
I removed my hood off mt 70 cs and two shims ,one each side, were on the top of hinge.
Were these shims on all C/S hoods between 68 and 72 and specifically, would they have been on the 68 442 hood hinges?
Thanks,
Ted

Ted, far as I know shims were only used as needed for all areas that specified their use. I wouldn't put any stock on them being found on all hoods from 68-72. My 72 uses the same fenders and basically the same hood as a CS and there's no shims on my hinges. Gaps are perfectly within factory specs.
All 68-72 hood hinges had them, if you're referring to the spacers at the back top of the hinges. It is necessary due to the curved section of the hinge. Without them, you couldn't tighten them down without bending the hinge. The GM part number is 402025 and Inline Tube sell them as a pair for $16.00, part number INL10148 although you can usually find them on Ebay for $12.00. It is common to lose them when removing the hood.
If you're referring to a thin shim, for hood to fender levelling alignment, as Allan mentioned, I have never seen one in any of the Cutlasses I worked on, so it would be something very specific to your particular car.

As droptopron said, all of them had the shims in his picture. there should not be any other shims between the hood hinge and hood. There is enough adjustment to adjust everything else from the hood to hing or hinge to fender adjustments.
Thanks for the imfo!
Ted
hey buddie i work in the field of restoration and all parts including back then had some flaws to them that is why some had those shims and maybe not others. I have used other shims also for hoods fenders etc when needed. aftermarket parts are big offenders of adjustments,This is usaully what is being made today elsewhere.
