1970 toronado video/audio, name that noise? Rod,crank,piston?

I bought this toro from a yard after seeing it sit for a couple years. I was told it has a knock & I'm trying to figure it out. It seems to disappear for a second or two as you accelerate. Not real schooled on engine knocks, so let me know what you guys think. It fires right up & other than the knock & exhaust leak, seems to run just fine...

Well crap, just when I found out how to load pictures here, now I can't load a video. If anyone wants to see the video, I think you can insert the link below???????? Or???

Where does the noise sound like its coming from? Kinda odd noise. Doesnt seem to stay with the beat of the engine. It almost sounds like the fan hitting something. HAHA could be a torque converter bolt, could be a rod knock, could be a broken rocker bridge. Try another video under the hood. Also try to take a spark plug wire off one at a time while the engine is running to see if the noise stops at a cylinder.

Not a rod. When you revved it up the sound went "erratic". A rod would knock consistently. Somethings loose or rolling around. Did you pull the flywheel inspection cover? Does the engine run smooth or not? If not pull a rocker cover probably a snapped trunion. Let us know cuz that's an interesting one.

I'm on the side of a loose converter bolt / loose flexplate bolts / broken flexplate.

As others have suggested, pull the inspection cover, put a wrench on all the bolts, and have a REALLY good look in there, with a mirror and a light - if there is anything that even looks like it might be a crack in the flexplate, usually right around where it bolts to the crank, pull the flexplate (no, I do not know how easy this is to do on a Toro ).

Partially collapsed lifter with a now
bent or mushroomed pushrod?
Cracked flywheel, or very loose bolt therin?
Sounds like it is running solid with NO rod knock.

Hopefully you will discover something minor, and
be able to bring her back! Nice find, even the
cold light is working. Very cool. Good luck, you got this.

Scott, this may sound crazy,
but years ago I had one with a
simular sound. Turned out to be the
fan on the alt. hitting the bracket.
Worth a check, let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the tips guys! I'll check into it as I get time & report what I find. It does seem to run just fine except for the unsettling noise.

troubleshooting 101
Remove things the motor does not need, one at a time. Alternator belt... PS belt... AC belt
Until you have just the engine running.

Use a pc of hose as a stethoscope, one end at your good ear, the other here and there until you locate the noise. You can listen to the inside of the engine, the flexplate area, around xst manifolds, etc.
