1970 442 Instruments

It was my understanding by way of a prior thread, that you could order Rally Gauges which also included a Tik Tok Clock and tachometer in the 1970 442. It was also my understanding that without ordering the Rally Gauge Package, a clock and/or tachometer was not an available option?? Please clarify. Thank you!!

Tic Toc Tach (clock / tach combo) was part of the Rallye instrument package that also had oil pressure and water temperature gauges. The "regular" clock was a completely separate option that as far as I know could be ordered on any level Cutlass. There was no other tach option.

You could order just a clock for the right side of the dash

On a 1970 442 you could order
  • A standalone clock
  • The Rocket Rally Pac which included the tach and clock as one unit.
  • None of the above and you got a clock delete plate.

That's what I thought, but another member told me this was not possible.

I agree, except I'm almost certain that someone had written that a freestanding clock was not available, nor a freestanding tachometer.

Correct about no stand alone tach option.

If just a clock was not possible, where did all of them that you see out there come from?

My 1970 Cutlass had a plain clock.

Here’s a build sheet showing the U35 option as a stand alone:

Olds has only offered the Tic-Toc-Tach without the matching gauges in one year (1967) and only on the full size cars (RPO Y79). It was never offered by itself on the A-body cars. This was essentially the same tach/clock combo used in the 1968-69 A-body Rally Pac option.
