1969 delta 88 455 "WONT CHARGE"

I had the alt checked it checked out good. I replaced the voltage regulator and all the connecting points but still it wont charge. the amp light is on while it runs but when u give it gas it goes out. could there be a burnt or bad wire in the loop. is there any kind of fuseable link behind the dash panel. there is a little box looking relay on the driver side fender well with wires connected to it. it looks pretty bad could this be the problem?

You'll need to start from scratch with this one.

Check battery voltage running and not running, and check alternator output voltage (should be the same as battery, unless you've got a bad connection).

Also, it can be very helpful to check alternator output current at the same time.

Once you have some of this basic information, you can start figuring out where the problem is. The best thing to do is follow the troubleshooting procedure in the Chassis Service Manual.

Thanks for that info. that would be great if I had the service manual!

Here's a couple:

A quick glance at ebay showed at least 10 for sale right now. These are all original, paper versions. You can get these on CD now, too, but I've heard that the quality of the scans can vary.

If you plan to do any work at all on the car, you need one of these.

While you're at it, you should pick up the '69 Fisher Body manual. These are a must, too, as many thing having to do with body and trim are not in the chassis manual but are in this one.

Use these until you buy a set.

And register with them - they want you to.
