1969 cutlass 350 4 speed

I found a California car, every day driver. It has no rust and pretty original. $9500 a good price?

It depends on how much work it needs. Not enough info... pictures would help.

I had one new as a senior in high school in 1968 (69 model). Rebuilt my current 69 to be what I had then, same color, interior, and M21 4 speed, and correct quadrajet.

Not a bad deal at that asking price, but as always you try to negotiate down a bit.

The underhood shot shows this is a heater only car, but the dash is an A/C dash with the center outlet (non-A/C cars had a blank panel there). Has the dash been changed? Is the under dash wiring properly working or half-fast? Wires hanging down also indicate potential wiring problems. Big sucking speaker holes in the doors. Busted vent pull **** in the kick panel. And, it's a 350 2bbl drum brake car. The harmonic balancer looks like one off of a 330, not a 350. Check the block casting numbers, or if it really is a 350, is the timing mark in the right place. Lots of indications that this car has been torn apart and put back together. I've frequently found that cars like that only have about half their original fasteners. Check it over VERY carefully, or get someone who is very familiar with these cars to do an inspection for you. $9500 is on the high side, so be sure you know exactly what you are getting into, or use these items to negotiate a better price.

When I buy a muscle car the most important item is the cars structure, body and frame.
Has the car been hit as in bad accident?
Rust and how much?
Is it a original 4 speed car?
How complete is the car?
JOE has nailed this car in his post!

I like the car but it has to pass the rust / accident criteria as well as is it a original 4 speed car?

When you buy a car that is already done its hard to know what is under all the lipstick.
Just look at the steering wheel in the red interior car.

Since I rebuilt this red car, I know exactly what is where (and have complete documentation. This particular car started life as an automatic, black interior with black vinyl top. At some time, another PO tried to do a half assed 442 clone job. When I bought it, still had a lot of Chevy parts, incl tranny, which I replaced with Olds parts. Body to bare metal (documented) and all rusted body and floor pans replaced. Steering wheel was the only deluxe version I could find at the time and was cracked and black. So I repaired it structurally and painted it with red plastic paint. Still some wrong year Olds parts on it, but close enough for me.

Have original bill bill of sale and build sheet. Engine is number correct to vin.

Thanks Joe I’m going to go look at this car again today. He does have about $11k in receipts little over a year ago. Rebuilt the engine, rings, bearings, pistons......and front end rebuilt. He has the center vent delete, he didn’t like the looks of it so he swapped it out, I would never. Thanks for all your information, you have a great eye when it comes to these cars.

An original stick car is a great find. Happy hunting. Pics would be wonderful.
