1968 convertable 4 speed? need info please
Hi, I have been looking for a 68 or 69 convertible for a while and finally ran across one ( it actually found me ) a 68 cutlass s convertible. It is a abandoned restoration project that was about 1/2 way along ( owner died 15 years ago and has been sitting in storage since). I found out through a neighbor of mine. Anyway most everything is there except the block, tranny, and hood. so it will never be a #s matching car. The wife says the car was a 4 speed and to me it looks like a factory 4 speed car, but looking on the web I cant find any 4 speed convertible cars that aren't 442's? is a cutlass convertible 4 speed rare? any Idea how to find out how many were made with 350 / 4 speed in 68 ? also would it have had a munci ? Thanks for any info

A manual trans in an Olds is relatively rare in any case. I had a cousin who owned a four speed 1968 Cutlass that he bought brand new.

QUOTE=joe_padavano;743303]That's because all the Cutlass convertibles have been turned into 442 clones...
That is true, any one have any numbers on 4 speed convertibles in 68? which Muncie would it have had m20,21,22 ???

Mine is a restored #'s matching 1968 Cutlass S convertible, painted in the original color Ivory, that came from the factory with a 3 speed manual. The car currently has a Muncie M21-4 speed in the car for driveability, however, for originality I kept the 3 speed which I keep in the garage.

To answer your question, no. No way to know how many Cutlass (or any other non-442) came with 4-spds. Any that did would have been mated to 350s.
I have figures from '67 and '70 to make some comparisons, though.
In '67: 11381 442s had 4-spds. About 1,000 more 4-spds made it into non-442s. 918 442s had 3-spd manuals. About 1,000 more 3-spd manuals (M14 floor shift) made it into non-442s.
In '70: 4996 442s had 4-spds. Surprisingly about 4300 more 4-spds made it into non-442s. 413 442s had 3-spd manuals. About 1415 more 3-spd manuals (M14 floor shift) made it into non-442s.
