1968 Ninety Eight Exhaust

Hello All,

I mentioned in another post that I am having work done on the front suspension and steering.

I am having to lift the rear back up due to bad previous owner's work; springs had just been manually cut and one is broken.

A new exhaust is not needed but I would like your opinions on whether to leave the loud modified one that is on the car now or to replace it with a normal sounding one.

Thanks for your input

Chas

98s should have silent exhausts. All of them.

The 98 is a dignified car, and is only right with a dignified exhaust.

Those who want loud exhausts need to run A-bodies.

Do you plan on doing other aftermarket upgrades to your car? If so, go with aftermarket turbo mufflers or glasspacks. If you're keeping the car mostly stock get stock replacements.

FWIW, I put 45" glasspacks on my 71 98. I love the way it sounds.

My delta has flowmasters with resonators. Sounds very dignified, but not a pushover by any means....

that. And then when you crush that Civic at the lights ... it's just that much more humiliating for him.

I voted "normal. " My grey 98 is very quiet. Turquoise 98 has duals with torque tube ( h-pipe) and flow masters, 2.5" pipes. Not loud but a nice sound, at least to me. I don't like a loud car. Jmo, Ken

I couldn't agree more. Oldsmobile 98's, like small children, should be seen and not heard.

Couldn't say it any better. Even with a factory exhaust, that 455 will power that car effortlessly. Changing from a single exhaust to duals will however make the car somewhat noisier.

Possibly the only sentence where you'll ever see the words "Olds 98" and "small" together.

I felt small in the backseat of an Olds 98.

Thank You

Hello,

I just wanted to thank everyone that voted and/or replied.

What I am going to do is go for the quiet type BUT as my son (he is 24) is coming over from the UK for a visit next month, I'll leave the loud exhaust that is on the car at the moment and let him 'enjoy' it whilst he is here for the week or so.

Thanks again everyone.

Chas
