1966 cutlass 442 d55 console code

Looking at one of the posts that show order codes for 1966 cutlass, the D55 code shows console, performance gauge, map light etc. is the performance guage the console mounted vacuum guage? I see pictures of cars with a vacuum guage and without? Curious if the vacuum guage was-a different rpo, or how that worked? As always thanks for educating me.

In the 1966 model year, every RPO D55 console in a Cutlass came with the vacuum (aka "performance") gauge from the factory. You could not order the gauge separately, nor could you order the console without the gauge. In the 1964-65 model years, every console came with the tach. Again, this info is for the F85/Cutlass line. Consoles in the full size cars were different as far as the tach/gauge fitment.
