1966 442 convertible frame
1966 442 convertible frame
I have been looking at my 442 and I origianally thought that it could be fixed but after closer examination it would be almost impossible to save. So I have talked to a couple of different people any couldn't get a clear answer. I know that i need one off of a convertible but i was wondering if the olds frames were different from the other A-body convertibles of 1966?
The GM A-body frames from 1966-67 will interchange, I'm not sure about other years. I don't know where your located but I saw this on the Redding California Craigslist. John

A 66/66 Cutlass frame is unique to 66/67 Olds A body only. The front frame rails are spread apart wider than the other GM A bodies. 66 was the first year for the crossflow radiator in the Cutlass series.

64-67 BUick Olds Pontiac interchange,,..chevelle is different is 4 inches shorter in the rear......
4 door post car work, 4 door hardtops are interchangeable the body has an extra crossmember like a convertible...you just dont use those holes in the frame it gets the blank rubbers, or buy the crossmember and then it can use the threaded mounts for more stability,,,..convertible works too...and all 65-66-67 GS Buicks have cnvertible frames under them
67 frame is 67 only...it is equipped to accept a 400 turbo
and of course convertible is completely boxed..a hardtop frame will go under it, but its not as stiff as a real conver frame
it takes work but you can cut the boxing off the convert frame you have and weld it to a non-convert frame, ive done it twice..becaus convert frames ar so hard to come by...unless you pay big bucks...
i've sold 100s of frames in the last 10 years, at least 10 66-7 cutlasses and they went under GTOs,,,and i have a guy that now buys all my frames...never heard or seen the spreaded rail thing..65-67 slylarks have cross flow radiators..
ive never sold a cutlass frame and it came back as not working...i will look at my hollander and see if lists the f-85 as interchangable,,,
i know it works, because ive been involved in the swap..and it all bolted right in a gto

It's a narrow cross flow radiator not as wide as Olds.

OK you right..
your are right GS 340 cars dont have boxed frames..what i meant was GS 400 cars
67 frames take all transmissions, including a 400 turbo, the other frames arent euipped to accpet the 400 trubo..and youre right 67 have diff springs..SO DOES THAT MEAN 67 is 67 only?Holey moley..im right...well almost

as you can see in my post i changed it..i said i would look at my hollander...but you got me..you are right..i was over ambitious, and didnt want to say i looked when i didnt..i changed it before you posted this response....but i just did, and mine says the same thing as yours..i was trying to help..not one up you...so you are right...
i dont even own a tape measure...
ive never sold a cutlass frame and it came back..i have a 66 cutlass in my back lot with the front clip off...im gonna go buy a tape measure..now i gotta see it..because im from misoouri, and you gotta show me...i cant believe GM would give olds a special frame...im not saying they didnt, but i cant believe it with out seeing it..
