1965 442 Grille Treatment Flat Black
1965 442 Grille Treatment Flat Black
I thank those who gave me advice on my 65. I think I've determined it is likely a Fremont 442. What I'm interested in now is the grille and tail pan. WWW.BRO says the headlight grilles are painted flat black on 442 except for the center horizontal bar, and the thin bar directly above and below it. I'm trying to find that section again and keep missing it. My whole grille is done that way. I originally thought somone had just painted it themselves, but I'm not sure now. Don't want to alter something that might be stock. Also my tail pan chrome, between the rear lights, is flat black, except under the 442 emblem. I was going to clean it off or change the chrome, but am now wondering if it might have been done at the factory, It's for certain a 442 tail pan, 2 holes for the emblem.
Anyone have thoughts on the grille and tail pan paint treatment?
Dave

Thanks Henry, Looks like I can't get any more accessory codes without a broadcast card. Bro doesn't list a seat code for 855, but I'll assume it was the code for a bench seat. I suppose they could have made a 442 that way. One of my 70 GTO s had a factory bench seat with column shift, and so did my 69 GS 400. As long as you had money, you could probably order anything.
heres another site for you to get lost in,

it may have the info you need as well, the grill is tricky to paint so hopefuly yours is original and easy to copy from

Its a site that you need to take time reading and researching. He covers everything you have asked about so far.
This page covers both your questions and has photos.

Found on Bros site, a list of every seat code and option. Im guessing that 855 is not your interior color.

Hi TK, Actually, my car has buckets. I was looking at the body tag codes on BRO's site, and all the buckets for the Fremont cars seemed to be 9-- codes, so I figured mine being a 855 code is perhaps a bench originally, but as usual, I could be way off base. Most other Fremont codes seem to have to be gotten from a broadcast card. I'll check out that last link you gave me regarding grilles. Thanks, Dave
No, you could not. If you had money, you could buy available options. Period. That is rumor that needs to be squashed.
Bench seat column shift Supercars (that's what they were called back then) were not at all rare.
