1964 F-85 Noise in Steering Wheel

Hey everyone, yesterday my steering wheel started making a noise whenever i turn it, it sounds like scraping or like a spring. Anyone have any ideas what this could be? Thanks for any help.

Not sure about 1964, but on my 1970 sport wheel I had the same noise - it got to be a really bad screech.
I took the wheel off, and the hub (you will need a puller), locking plate and then the cancel cam. The problem was that the metal contact plate on the back of the cancel cam had delaminated. It was dragging over the turn signal lever attachment screw. I epoxied it back on tight, and ground a bit off the turn signal lever screw as well. Lithium grease for good measure.
No more noise.
If it is not that then you would need to dig deeper.

A '64 column is fery simple inside. No lock plate. Take a peek in there. You may need a steering wheel puller to remove it after the nut is off.

I think i'll take the wheel off, I just didn't want to because I'm worried I won't be able to line it up with the wheels perfectly

Check the gap between the wheel and the bowl to see it it closed up somehow. The 64-66 columns are very easy to adjust and if that's the problem,I'll tell you how to adjust the gap.
