Anybody hear about the guy that removed the raditior cap on the hot car? When we pulled in in the Alero Train, it looked like Old Faithful.

Saw those two, the W30 and W31 all weekend. Seen them at the Alero show on Friday.

IF you had an Olds older than mid 70's, I could see spending some cash at the swap meet, sadly for us 80's and up guys, we were SOL.

The sign was cool. I really liked that

But after sitting in line for 5 minutes I grew impatient and saw an empty spot in a lot reserved for some other purpose. I feel sorry for anyone who arrived after 10:30.

I hate to complain about a show that's obviously grown way beyond what the volunteers probably want to deal with, but there's got to be SOMETHING they can do to better accommodate spectators!
5 minutes?

Parking is a problem, always has been! But what is the solution? Move the show to where? The GM plants could accommodate size wise but if they are working that becomes an issue. The only other choice is the Jackson National parking lot, but that is close to the same size as the current facility.

(SOAPBOX RANT)
REMEMBER IF YOUR GOING TO CHIRP ABOUT THE ISSUES, BECOME PART OF THE SOLUTION NOT PART OF THE PROBLEM!!!! Reference my previous post on last years issue.

For those who have a brain storm or would like to volunteer their services Don Cooper 517-290-7455 or oldshomecoming@aol.com

They actually came around twice and asked what I thought about the volume. I told them it was better than last year and just about right (but I was out in the swap meet, it was probably louder on the center of the show field). I only bitch about the song selection for fun, not much that can really be done about that, it's up to the DJ to pick the songs and you can never please everyone with that. I hate Kathy Metteo's "Rocket 455" or whatever it's called too. Damn, that song is like a funeral dirge.

I personally do not like having to park by class, you don't get to sit with your group unless you want to sit away from your car, and that's no fun. Also, this year I was in the swap meet, my 83 year old father brought out his '49 98 and he was able to park it across the aisle from my swap meet spot and spend the day with me but still be right with his car. If there were classes we never would have been able to do that. I like seeing the dicotomy of a 1939 parked next to a 1969 next to a 1999. BTW, Alero guys, I love seeing your cars at this show. Please keep coming, some of those cars are badass.

To solve the parking problem they would have to run a shuttle from somewhere. There is no easy answer to that one.

Black Gold, I've waited a lot longer than 5 minutes to get into shows where I was preregistered. I think Ed has done a fantastic job of streamlining the registration process for non-preregisterd cars. The big problem still is people want to stop and have all of their questions answered about the show at the registration desk.

Very nice! shuttle was my thought also! We do have the delta GM plant (pending their approval) off Davis hwy just about 3-4 miles away. Also who absorbs the cost of the shuttle maybe 50/50 split or maybe a sponsor. Then as a secondary thought how do we get people to park and use the shuttle enough to make it payoff? Would have to be on fliers, posters and registrations.

I can pass this idea along to the Homecoming committee if we have a few more people on board who think this is a good idea?

I wasn't complaining about the wait. I was complaining about the fact the only place to park was on the showfield. But you guys are right: I do feel guilty for complaining about a show at which I should actually be helping out.

You want a soultion? How about the Michigan State Police allow spectators to park on their skidpad/training course? You can see it as you exit the higway; it's a short walk away. Yeah, I know, I'm dreaming. We're lucky to use their facility at all.

Classes, bring them back.

One of the reasons the Alero club will not be there next year

There isnt judging at the event, so why have classes? There is room to get all your Aleros in line and parked by one another. Get there early set up.

Dont let something as simple as classes make you not show up.

I personally like by class, but as you can see the crew that's handling the homecoming day of show process are pushing 70 years old on average.

Doing things by class is labor intensive with layout, signage and bodies to direct you to your spot.

I agree with the others on the Alero group, even if you guys come up with 6 or 7 cars, don't let little things effect the big picture! Of course I am little partial.

I'd really hate to see the Alero guys leave. Its a large part of the show. Some of those cars are done up quite well! I really would like to help this next year, not sure what all i can do, but I'd certainly do my best. I love that its still growing after all these years! That's a refreshing feeling that Oldsmobile still has such a strong following after all these years.
