100 Years of Route 66 Celebration
100 Years of Route 66 Celebration
They are having a cruise in Tulsa, Oklahoma to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of Route 66. They are attempting to break the world record by having 3,000 cars. They already have 2,300 registered. My wife and I are going and several other people from North Texas Olds are going. Hope to see some of your there.

Rode in the back of my parents Buick LeSabre (1963) and Buick Invicta station wagon (1964) on Route 66 (end-to-end) w/ my brothers. Peaceful, fun & enjoyable. The last place I'd travel is to see 3,000 crazed lunatics on the same road. No thanks.
I am damn near 80 years old and maybe I am crazy but my wife and I are doing it in here 95 Cutlass convertible. We are going from there on up to Branson for a couple days. Otherwise we would be going in the Hurst. The Hurst gets 12 mpg and her Cutlass gets about 24. Easy decision. Eric I thought you might be there since you are not that far away. This is one time I wish I still had the 54. That would be a perfect car for this parade.
I think it's going to be a madhouse and traffic nightmarish, I'm sitting it out and staying local. Plenty to do here. In the meantime there is a lady that lives a block over who's husband recently passed away and has a 57 Bel Air that he had owned since HS and wants to attend with it. It has not run in a long while, I'm making sure it's road ready and safe for her to make the trip.
The cruise is next week. Currently they have 4,100 vehicles registered from 43 states, Canada and France. They contacted me yesterday and asked if we would be willing to carry one or two people who are serving as grand marshals. They have several people who are centenarians and members of the Avery family who are serving as grand marshals. Of course, I said yes. Cyrus Avery was known as the father of Route 66. It is my wife's car and she will be driving and I will be riding shotgun. This is going to be a pretty big plus to be at the front of the parade. This was an unexpected perk. I have to say, this is one time I wish I still had my 54 Super 88 convertible. It will make the Guiness Book of World Records.
