1 week from today , Mecum Indy .

There seems to be an unusually big number of exceptionally nice 442's crossing the block next Friday @ Dana Mecum's 29th - Spring Classic .
F 90.4 : 69 , Oldsmobile 442 , W - 30 ,4 spd , Black ext Red int . , 3.91 gears , great look , " believed to be 19,718 miles " .
F 141 : 71 , Oldsmobile 442 , W - 30 , 455 , 4 spd , " believed to be 17,035 actual miles " . Magnum 500 wheels ??? GM Heritage paperwork .
F 204 : 1970 Oldsmobile , 442 , W - 30 .. Green 4 spd I believe . This one has a previous Level 1 restoration , out of Arvada Colorado . Real car , not many taken to this level . Great for reference .
F 219 : 1971 Oldsmobile 442 , Convert . Lime Green Convert . Real car , traced to original owners , another car like the one above , worth the time and effort to closely see - what separates a multi year , no excuses , every fit - finish - execution to perfect looks like .. Good times .

And , Saturday : S 201 : This is a 1968 , Oldsmobile 442 , W - 30 , Convert , Auto , Triple White .. Rare ? I have not heard or seen of another one .
Definitely worth the price of admission or stream it on your computer . When streaming , NO COMMERCIALS , and you can eliminate less than professional audio feed .
If I was close to INDY next weekend , this is where I would be hanging ..
Very well executed muscle Oldsmobile stuff .. JT

I am thinking about going but not sure yet. In my own back yard and never been. I always have to much going on. Thought about selling mt W-30 there but the fees are just to much. I would rather sell it for less outside of the auction.

Try the car corral at the Auburn fall auction, I think a spot runs $250 for the weekend? Or the Olds Homecoming show in Lansing, Father's Day weekend.

Been there done that. this is why my car is going to be there. listening to people ask me why my car is worthy of my asking price the rare times I take it out get sickening. I don't want it to be an ebay or internet ***** so I'm taking it where money is walking around, people who like what they see or aquaintances of such people. This will be it for me and the car, if I don't get close it comes homw and maybe I go for AACA senior status and call it a day and start using it like they were intended. I think it would be your best chance eric and it needs exposure. Your car is nice but pictures only expose it so much. a lot of folks at auction end up with something they like that day or maybe hadn't intended to buy.

Someone on this board owns this 69 W-30 OAI convert. White on white. I think it's a 4 speed too. Same car as in the auction?

I can't believe so many people are still hung up on the auction craze. Sorry, but I want a car that I can drive, not just sit in the garage because I am afraid to up the original mileage. ...

In defense of Mecum...it is not Barrett Jackson. Most of the cars that come across the line are reasonably priced drivers (even though everyone has their own definition of "reasonable"). A few go for insane money, but most of them look like they are ready for a Friday night cruise.

The one thing I know for sure, at least from the TV side of watching the Mecum auctions, is that they try to get the seller to remove the reserve on almost every sale (that doesn't meet reserve) when the car is live. Sometimes it is accompanied with a drop in the sellers fees. Not quite sure what to think of this... the goal is to sell the car, but with a vanishing reserve that the buyers expect will be lower than the actual reserve. Could be a trend for bad habits. Or it could just be getting out of the car whatever the market says it is worth.

I'll be there Friday. Me & a buddy go every year just to check out what's there.

Yeah. Mecum has a huge variety. From simple used, unrestored 20 yo sedans to crazy high dollar customs/exotics. Some of the stuff that doesn't make it on TV is wayyy wackier/more interesting.

Not buying anything, but Skillman has dumped a bunch in this year.
There's 2 cars I want to see. The MCACN '68 W-30 and a nice black/red '69 W-30 4spd HT that I saw at Skillman years ago.

Looks like I am going Friday. I need to learn the process just in case I ever decide to take a car there. I don't think I ever will but I don't want to go blind if I should ever decide to. I plan to look at the cars and watch the process as much as I can. Where do I find the list of cars that will be there. All I can find are the cars that were there last year. The Mecum site is pathetic for information. It only shows Saturday Sunday and Monday the only days it is open with sellers check in on Saturday.

Edit... I guess at the top it shows the 17th to 21st but below that only the weekend

Friday attendees .

If any of the in person attendees want to see when 2 specific cars are going across the block , here is my current information .

jstrits car , id LOT # F - 219 . 71 , 442 , Lime Green , going across the block between 4 and 6 pm . One of Jason's friends has LOT # F - 204 , 1970 , W -30 , probably 12 cars before , maybe 1 hr. earlier ..

Stop by Jason's car early in the day , just an awesome man - usually with his family - I know any support would be well received . And , I'm always in awe of his knowledge and accuracy on anything 70 - 72 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 of any variety..
Good fortunes to both of these individuals and their cars .. JT

Just got back & got to meet Jason (again?). His car is very nice & I hope he does well with it. Saw the white '68 listed above also & it is a great car. Saw a blue '71 442(W30?) that seemed pretty nice but had several items that I questioned.

What was the nicest non-Olds car you saw? I recorded the broadcast, but still need to watch it.

There were way to many to pick a favorite. Mrs. Packrat liked a '60 Impala that was in exceptional condition. I have never owned a Mopar yet but did see several VERY nice ones. One that stood out was a hemi challenger I think, don't remember what year but it was all original with less than 11,000 miles on it. It was far from perfect but was totally original. There was about any make, model, & year of muscle car you could ask for. If only I had Jay Leno money to play with.

Pretty sure it was this one.
https://www.mecum.com/lot-detail/SC0...ble/Automatic/

It now has SSIIs on it, but mentions '...and full size wheel covers ..'

I looked this car over as I'm partial to white/white '68 'verts!

It was touted heavily with '2015 MCACN Concours Gold award'. I'm not sure what the MCACN standards are, but I saw some issues...

The blue 442 W30 is already listed on RK Motors website as incoming inventory.

If I recall correctly the Blue '71 had nothing to prove the W30 status and pedigree.

Nice story but nothing other than bolt on parts and that it was built in Lansing Michigan.

Mecum got the job done, remember that the actual price paid by the high bidder is hammer price plus 10% buyers premium.

And all the bolt on parts were old style repop. I did not expect it to be that high. If I have mine next year (and I likely will) then I am thinking I will take mine.

Generally, this is true, although I did hear Dana talking to a bidder on the broadcast the other day and he negotiated his buyer's fees downward. He was buying multiple cars though so this might be rare for a single car purchase.
