Mecum Indy - Anyone go ??

Went yesterday so here's my Oldsmobile-centric report....!
(Disclosure: Was in a bit of a critical mood due to me wrenching my back a few days ago....& my ph batt died so no pics...)

Overall
- Seemed like the number of cars was down. Lotsa empty space in some buildings.
- Crowd sparse too. Maybe the rain....
- Didn't like the new food vendor. Where's my Ital sausage sandwich, foo!?? & everything went up 20+%....Dang...
- Not a Mecum/Olds issue, but the 'New Coliseum' is not as cool as old.

Cars
Lot T297 - '68 442 'vert
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...=SC0514-182939
Tired 'ol girl. Bad stripes (!!). Rear end was a mess. Bumper shot, chrome needs work, wrong lenses. Body iffy. Right fender-cowl bolt sticking up .5"....tightened by hand. (You're welcome, owner...). Underhood needed work...

Lot T104 - '69 442 'vert
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...=SC0514-182746
Interesting except... needed some serious panel alignment. Doghouse all over the place. Was locked up, couldn't check inside/underhood.

Lot F246 - '69 H/O
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...=SC0514-184181
Overall = OK....but a 60K collector car ? Rattle-can gloss black everywhere & what's wrong with this picture ?

Lot S172 '70 'Unrestored' W-30 'vert
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...=SC0514-184397
Pretty car. W-27 is cool, but unrestored my butt. The body/int maybe as they were weathered/worn, but underhood was obviously redone & not entirely correct.

F254 '71 W-30 'vert
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...=SC0514-184224
Overall a nice car. Don't remember any glaring probs....

Lot F302 - '71 442
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...=SC0514-190974
Nice resto. Had a few minor questionable items, but nothing stands out now...

Lot F18 - '79 H/O W-30
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_de...=SC0514-191007
A bit worn, but very looked mostly original/untouched. Prolly an OK buy @ $7500. I think this car was for sale in a rural driveway a couple of miles from me a couple of years ago....for $7500.

I can't believe they put
the rockets upside down (wrong sides)
on that 69 H/O. Crazy!

The valve covers were on the wrong sides on this car. You would think with all the documentation they would know that??!!

A few more that tripped my trigger.

This one got bid to $10,000 but the reserve was $20,000. It needed a lot of work.

Original corvette with optional bubble top!!??

Interesting take on a Camaro, to bad they did not pick a 442 instead of a GTO to remake.

IMO, the W-30 seller should have taken the money. W-27 rear. Maybe one of one? Still, that's a big bag of cash! Love the H/Os. That price is out of my range.

Why do people convert Camaros into cars that were entirely different animals? Really a GTO? C'mon, the Trans Am was a stretch, but a GTO? I'm still scratching my head iver that one.

They could convert them to Mustangs and they would look better than what they started out with.

Agreed. When I see a claim of 'unrestored' I think of a time capsule car. Maybe a bit worn, but completely untouched. This car had obviously had some underhood work. Engine looked brand new w/fresh paint & pristine exh manifolds.....which always calls into question other claims...

Dave

I just saw on Friday night at the car show a guy took a 66 Goat and put the body of the car on the chassis of a 2006 GTO. I don't know how he made it work. but he did. It had all the 06 interior and instruments as well.

That's a different animal. These new cars based on the Camaro are an abomination. Just buy the dang Camaro. The Z/28 is badass! It's also a lot of money. I won't be buying anytime soon.
