Thanks Mike, that is interesting. I've never used an electric fan on anything myself. The site has some good points about the power it takes to run them, sort of like fanning your face in the summer for cooling and getting hotter from the work, a vicious cycle.
I have always thought they were more of a band-aid for other problems on a lot of cars.
But I guess in some cases that's all that will work because of other factors.... like global warming.

I read a thread over at ROP that became quite contentious over that subject. Does an electric fan draw more energy than a mechanical one? Jeesh, you would think that all the participants were electro-mechanical engineers for NASA the way they were arguing. I tried an electric fan on an Olds engine once, didn't notice much difference. I am using mechanical now.

hey guys i dont get on here much but here goes i have 71 olds cutlass supreme with the original 350 rocket i have done a lot of motor work and i can tell a big difference in my electric fan setup versus the stock fan clutch i run on average at 170 degrees with the electric now i do have a valley pan on and no fan shroud but i would like to say its o much better especially in stop and go traffic

That is good information. Thanks for sharing it with us. I can definitely see how rotary engines would need adequate cooling. Especially the earlier ones. They were notorious for blowing out apex seals because of stop and go driving and the engine heating up unevenly.
