Headlight Relay Help Needed
Headlight Relay Help Needed
OK, I got a headlight relay kit for my '68 Cutlass (four headlight system), installed it according to the directions, and it works perfectly. I love it.
So I bought a headlight relay kit for my '78 Starfire (four headlight system). Bought it from a different outfit. I installed it according to the directions, and it works, but the bright lights are on when the bright light indicator is off, and when I click the dimmer switch the bright light indicator comes on, and the bright lights go off. I unhooked the relay system and plugged the stock harness back in and everything works like it should. Am I missing something simple here before I call the company and complain? The lights cannot be plugged in backwards as the outer lights are three prong and the inner lights are two prong. Any ideas?

"Kit?"
What's wrong with buying two $4 relays and connecting it yourself, so you know that it's done right?
We would need to see detailed photos of every part of the kit to be able to know what's going on.

I figured, based on my track record, that I was just missing something really simple.

Not a matter of need Joe, it's a matter of I don't ever want to go under one of those dashboards again if I can help it. I'd rather replace relays under the hood once a year than have to remove either of those headlight switches again.
Peter, that could be the problem, but the relays came prewired and are supposed to be correct. I tried calling them in Cali today, but got an answering machine. Not a good start customer service-wise. I left my number for them to call me back, but as of 8:00 pm EDT (5:00 pm PDT which they list as their closing hour) I still don't have a call back. I'm calling them again tomorrow at 1:00 pm EDT.
