hi guy,s just put a new intake on my 69 cutlass 350 for some reason i got battery problems charged the battery and it seems to drain in about three or four starts.

 

is the charging system working? are you completely charging the battery?

 

Also check belt tension!!! Just a thought

 

hi thanks checked belts, and brought battery to a place for volt and load test ,its ok, so on a full charged battery i can only start car maybe three times in a row, when car is running i get 14 volts from my altenator but i cant check amps unless i bring the car in.

 

Is the ground wire from the battery to the engine block tight and clean. If you want to check battery draw put an amp meter inline between the negative battery post and battery cable. If you find a draw you can start pulling fuses until it goes away to find which circuit is drawing the power.

A voltage drop test of all the battery & starter wires may also be in order. Also do a voltage drop test of the cables to the starter during cranking.

 

hi when i put the amp meter between the neg post and cable to you leave the positive on the post ,because when the pos is on the post i think that just loops everything and i get the same reading as normal.

 

14V is good - alt ~should~ be working...
Do you have any aftermarket electronics (alarm, radio, gauges, etc) that may not be wired or working right?

With car turned off, disconnect battery and connect a 2 amp battery charger (or other charger on low current) to the battery terminals (not the battery.) Look at the current meter. Start pulling fuses to see when or if the current drops to 0. If fault is not found, some connectors here and there will need to be disconnected / reconnected.

 

Does battery drain when every thing is off and how long does it take to drain battery,did you change the timing when you removed the intake?

 

it takes about 3 or 4 starts of the car, i got a new battery ground cable and the wire on the back of the altenator ,not the plug but the wire by it self not sure what its called,had lots of fraid wires, so far it seems better had it out last night and it seems a ok but not sure yet. and yes i had the cap off ,and the distributor loose but i marked it and think it is in the same place.
