Electrical Overhaul

Hi folks. I'm trying to get some ideas for where to look next. I have a 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham. I'm thinking there's a major wiring overhaul is needed. I have a new battery and put new battery cable connectors. After connecting the battery, there was smoke from the back bottom of the block on the driver side. We figured out the wipers were on. We disconnected and turned everything off then reconnected everything and attempted to restart. Nothing. I'm not sure what to look at next. Electrical is generally out of my wheel house. Ideas?

If you have no power to the cabin at all, including the headlights, check for a burned fusible link at the starter.

Thank you! I appreciate the help! Really want to get my Grandpa's "big bird" back on the road.

Double check the work you did to ensure you did not cause the issue.

Did I mention the CSM includes full color wiring diagrams? along with service procedures for about any other issue your Brougham may have? 😎 That can be kinda important because about everyone who worked on these cars new is retired or dead, and if you take it to a "modern" shop they will look at you like you just arrived from outer space.

This is great, thank you!

I will never understand how so many people smoke those fusible links. 🤣🤣
