Question Sudden Power loss

Hey Guys,

I just parked my 1973 Delta 88 Royale
and suddenly all power was lost. No ignition, lights, windows. The battery is brand new. Any thoughts...where is the fuseable link from the battery?

Did they have a fusible link in 73?

Start by checking connections. The battery may be new, but what about the battery cables? Are all connections at the battery and at the horn relay clean and tight? Is the battery ground cable securely and cleanly connected at the other end? Get a voltmeter or test light and start checking for power. Do you have 12 volts at the battery? At the horn relay? At the fusebox? The first place where the answer to this question is no gives you a place to start.

Do you have a '73 Chassis Service Manual? The wiring diagram in it would be very useful for you. It shows that the positive cable from the battery goes to the starter. From there, there is a brown wire that goes through a fusible link, becomes a red wire, and connects to the horn relay. Several wires leave the the relay, one of which also passes through a fusible link. It becomes a red wire after the fusible link and then connects to the fusebox. There are also wires connected to the horn relay that connect to the horns (obviously), the alternator, and to what the wiring diagram calls the "engine and generator dash connector." If you don't find the problem quickly as just being a loose or corroded connection at the battery or horn relay, and if you don't have one, I'd definitely get the service manual for further troubleshooting.

Great suggestions. I am at the office so, I will have locate a voltmeter. I do have a service manual.

It also helps if you take a piece of sandpaper and clean the insides of the battery connectors. Also to make sure they fit on tight on the battery terminals.

IT was an in-line fuse that corroded and failed. Thank you all.
