washer pump woes 70 cutlass supreme

Washer pump was not working on 70 supreme, but the wipers work fine.
Bought a new pump and bolted it up and plugged it in, but this one does not work either, no noise or anything.
Fuse is fine, as the wipers work fine.
Did a little electrical testing and here is what I found.
At the pump both wires are hot - the blue and the yellow wire.
When I activate the switch for the pump I lose power at the yellow wire, but still no pump activation.
This is with the new pump installed.
Any ideas please???
Where do I go next?

The yellow to the washer solenoid should be hot when the ignition is in RUN.

The light blue to the washer solenoid should ground when the washer button is pressed, otherwise, it should not be connected to anything.

I would check the wiper switch.

70 cutlass washer switch

As I am a novice at this kind of stuff, can you help me troubleshoot this switch?

Remove the plug from the switch, but be aware of which wires attach to which terminals - when I describe a wire color, I mean the terminal that color wire goes to, not the wire itself.

There are three wires.

As I said, the blue wire should be grounded when the washer button is pressed.

The black wire should be grounded on OFF, should be grounded AND connected to the black-and-white wire in LOW, and should not be connected to anything in HIGH.

The Black-and-White wire should not be connected to anything in OFF, should be connected to the black wire and to ground in LOW, and should be connected only to ground in HIGH.

switch removal from dash

Okay, sounds easy enough, but, how do I remove the switch from the dash? Do I need to remove the dash panel or get behind the switch or can I do it all from the front with the dash intact?
Thanks again,

I've never removed a switch from a '70 Cutlass, so I would just say to follow the instructions in the CSM.

That being said, you may be able to just unplug it and test it in place.

wiper switch

okay I contorted myself and removed the switch from the backside of the dash and marked which wires go where - dark blue, black and lite blue. Can I test the switch in hand? Or for the cheap price just buy a new one and install it? Many thanks again,

I'd test it.

Check continuity between various terminals and ground as above with a meter of a test light.
Should take all of 5 minutes.

washer pump

Thanks Eric for all the help, but I copt out and bought the electric (no cam)aftermarket replacement pump. It works great. Will be sending back the other one. On to other problems with the light sockets. But that's another post.

The original ones were always flaky anyway.
