Exclamation Turn signals not working please help

I have a 1972 cutlass. My turn signals stop working today. The turn signals lights inside the car on the dash and outside don't work at all. But the hazards lights work on the dash and outside the car. All my other lights work fine, brake and headlights. I did change the flasher relay and checked the fuses. This happen right after a loud bang outside my tailpipe with white smoke from a misfire for not letting the car warm up and taking off right away. That's what I'm assuming that bang was from. Had the car for 3 years with nothing like this.

Did you change both relays ? There's one on the fuse block and one that's hidden in front of it under the dash board lower lip . The bang sound ? Could be a build up of oil in the cylinder , timing is off . Someone that knows more about this issue should chime in soon .

The flasher module you changed is the one that controls the four way emergency flashers. The flasher module for the turn signals is on a wiring pigtail under the dash. It is to the left of the steering column, about behind the wiper switch. It is supposed to be held by a clip on the metal part of the dash, but frequently it is just loose bouncing around back there.

Fixed it!

Thank you so much Joe! I found the other relay under the steering wheel! I changed it and it works great! I appreciate it! I thought there was only one!

I've never understood the logic GM used. The flasher module for the infrequently used emergency flashers is obvious and easy to reach. The flasher for the turn signals, which is used far more frequently and thus more likely to require replacement, is hidden and difficult to access. Go figure.

Idk why but this was the easiest thing I've done on this bucket. Lucky I guess. Blinkers will probably be still broken when I replace. It's a trap
