Temp Gauge Bobble

Hello all,

Has anyone experienced their temp gauge wobbling intermittently? Mine (67 Vista Cruiser) has started doing this. Seems to start at idle and sometimes calms down once cruising. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jim

I don't understand your description of the problem. Is it just short swings in temp, large swings in temp, or something else?

Eric,

When I start the car, the needle reads properly. As it warms up, it also seems to be ok. Then usually when I come to a stop, the needle starts fluctuating (jumping around) rapidly. Most of the time, not always, as I get back to cruising, it stops shaking and becomes stable. But I have also seen it keep jittering too. The car hasn't always done this, this is a new thing.

Things I've checked:
Voltage on battery at idle - 14.5v.
Connection on temp sending unit seems to be good.

Thanks,
Jim

Check your coolant level, it may be low causing an air pocket.

Check the connections to the gauge in back, too. Nuts could be loose.

Change your thermostat.

They start to behave in a weird way before the fail.

Get a Robertshaw high flow version.
