I hope this is in the right forum

The taillight lens housing I bought from The Parts Place doesn't have the grommet on the wiring and there is no obvious way to use the old one. What do you all do in this situation? What do you use to bring the wires through the hole and isolate/insulate/protect?

Maybe I should just split it along the length of the old wires and then glue it back together onto the new wiring...

I have a bucket full of rubber grommets of various sizes/shapes/thickness. You can buy a mess of them from any Ace Hardware store.

 

Yeah, but they won't be the correct molded grommet that has four individual holes for the wires.

 

You are correct. Surprisingly enough however, I do own a drawer full of scientific glass beaker rubber stops of various sizes in addition to owning a drill. I can be quite creative when called upon.

 

I'm betting you know exactly what I'm talking about. In the off-chance you do not, glass beaker rubber stops are used for many scientific experiments. I could very well fashion a very good grommet - if push came to shove.

 

Thx Norm, I’m gonna try cutting it down the middle with a very sharp carpet razor blade along the old wires then reuse it by silicone-ing it back together on the new wires

 

I wasn't trying to impart the idea I'd know exactly how I'd address this issue, a portion of it was playful banter since I believe you're also being creative. If I couldn't find a supplier & I "had" to have the exact same grommet, I'd most likely head to a salvage yard where it's likely many other GM vehicles & other manufactures used the exact same grommet.

Going to find another one won’t help since I already have the original. Problem is I bought a new taillight lens housing that already has the wiring all terminated in the connectors. The original has the grommet molded on BEFORE the wires are crimped with terminals and then plastic housings. The repro one from The Parts Place has no such grommet pre molded onto the wires. So, I have to split one anyway no matter what I use.
