Tail light sockets

Where do you find original tail light sockets (pigtails) for a 66 Cutlass/442? All I can find at local auto parts stores are these cheap Dorman plastic sockets that do not secure well to the body (hole).

I also remember that the sockets on older cars were metal that when squeezed would spring securely into the hole. The parts store sockets do not secure the bulbs very well either. The 1157 type bulb should twist-lock tightly. Anyone have a source for the original sockets or equivalent?

I'm not familiar with the '66 tail light assemblies, but for my '72 tail lights I removed the existing sockets by carefully grinding away the stamped steel housing and installing S91 sockets from Standard Motor Products. You can check out my process in my build thread starting at post#346. Here's a link:

I haven't found much available for those sockets, American Auto wire has two the plastic one like the on you posted , that's what was on the reproduction harness I got, they fit ok, and a metal one that I haven't tried let.

Thanks much! Fantastic thread. I’d like to use LEDs also. JB Weld does wonders but hopefully you never need to change your bulbs again!
