Stereo options

Alright, I was wondering the stereo options for my '89 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser.

It has the factory deck, factory dash 3.5's, factory rear sails 4x10's.

If it matters, this car has the third row seat.

Are there any different sizes I could use without mauling the interior? Modern speakers don't exactly fit with a dated tan interior.

The stereo in the car is the factory 1.5 din stereo, as found in many GM's. Basic, AM, FM, tape, bass, treble, DNR, that's it. I'll be changing it for a newer deck, not sure which, I'm thinknig of finding an older dash style panel with the shaft **** opening and putting in a Retrosound model one. I like the look of those, and I don't use CD's (or an iPod), so it would work fine.

I've seen/heard the 4" speakers in the doors trick, don't really like it.

For the record, I listen to rock, and metal, and that's really it. None of this bassy rap nonsense. Just rock, and metal. So I was thinking if I'm stuck with the factory speakers I'd use 3.5" kicker KS35's upfront, and kicker KS410's in the back. I don't want a subwoofer, I've thought about it, I'm not really sure it will be much use, and I'm really afraid someone around here would shatter a window to steal it. Also, it's not even the theft of it that would bother me as much as trying to clean the glass out of my car.

So, any advise on the stereo and speakers? I'd rather not have boxes rolling around in the back, just for the shear fact that I know that someone will eventually steal them.
