Starfire electrical questions

Ok...well, of course when you change something, of course it affects something else. The two air compressors are going to pull 40 amps and the alt is only 64 amps ish so time to upgrade. Also I'm going to run two batteries with an isolator.

So, I've included pictures of the alternator, can anyone suggest an easy upgrade? Is the main wire large enough (probably not)? I don't have a problem with a one wire if thats the last alternative. Your constructive comments are welcome.

And batteries....how many CCA do I need for the 394? I plan on buying Odyssey batteries which are pricey so no need to go overboard.

some answers

Ok after some major help from a co worker who co owned an auto electric shop.....Found that a good replacement for my model 7122 alternator. The 7294 is a 94 amp internally regulated model that can still be adapted with my 'alt' light on the dash and has the same size case. Runs just under $100 from the local parts store.

And contrary to my last post, I'm going overboard and buying 1 large battery to run my pumps from. I'll go to an isolator and two batteries later if needed. If you search for a 7294 model, there may be many varitions of that part number. Also there are also clocking options sometimes in the part number. The 80's Fiero's with v6's had these alt's. Might be a good place to start. Hope this helps someone.

The old rule of thumb for CCA (cold cranking amps) is 1 amp for each cubic inch.
