Speedo needle

Can anyone tell me how to get this indicator needle off? I tried prying but don't want to break something but I think that is the only way? Must be pressed on?

I carefully pull up on the center while spinning counter clockwise. Spinning counter clock wise is the key. The internal stop will keep the shaft from spinning below 0 MPH. Once you break it loose, it should come off pretty easily. When re-assembling, I put the needle on at about 5 MPH and then lightly press in while spinning counter clockwise to line the needle up with 0 MPH. Hope this makes sense.

Ok thx for that. Does the shaft have a twisted thread that the bites the needle ? If so wouldn’t you go clockwise to put back on? Is it knurled or something? Do you use any adhesive on the install?

There are no threads, knurls, or splines. It is simply a press fit. DO NOT use adhesive when re-assembling. A small amount of pressure is all that is required to re-attach the needle to the shaft.

Dinner fork works well for removing the needle.
