Slightly Brighter Reverse Light bulbs 1156 vs P21W LLB2
Gang,
Just in case brighter reverse lights are of interest to you all:
I have to replace the stock reverse lights on an ‘05 Jag XJ8. Not an Olds, but a nice car. They use a bulb which Phillips calls P21W LLB2. That bulb is physically the same as the 1156 reverse lights some of have been using for 60 years or more.
But the P21W LLB2 has an output of 460 lumens vs. the 420 lumen output of the stock 1156 bulb. I believe they draw more power as well, which makes sense, but for reverse lights I’m not too worried about them being on all the time and overheating/melting wires. I don’t know the lumens scale so I’m going on the higher=brighter theory here.
While we’re at it, the 2357 bulb is a brighter version of the 1157 brake/turn bulbs we know so well. Burns brighter (so, safer), but less long.
Hope this helps someone out there
Chris
